The highlight of a trip for children from the Powell River Townsite to the Myrtle Goat farm in Paradise Valley in the 1930’s was a ride on a goat cart pulled by a billy goat! Tom and Gertie Lambert owned the largest goat dairy in the Dominion of Canada from 1926 -36 . They had over a hundred milking goats which supplied milk to the fast growing industrial town of Powell River. Goat’s milk was considered a safe milk for children at a time when cow’s milk was not pasteurized . “Save the Babies!” was emblazoned on Tom Lambert’s delivery truck. |
