When we arrived here the four of us from Powell River, Bette Parkin, Francis Haigh, Edith Taylor and myself all had our own ideas of sleeping in beds by each other. They changed all that. They sent us to bed in alphabetical order and I found an “MC” girl from the east beside me Guess it will work out all right though. In the drill hall here, there is basketball, badminton, handball, indoor soft ball and every gymn [sic] convenience. On Saturday night dances are held in the drill hall. There are 140 girls in out squadron: 19 from BC; four from Powell River.”

Doris Bailey was our first enlistment in this corps and the first of her group to proceed overseas, in December, 1943. Doris served in the United Kingdom and went to the continent after D Day. At the time of writing she is back in Powell River. Other local CWAC’s in the overseas army included Mary Loukes, Mrs. Gladice MacIntyre and Phyllis Simmonds.”
